In the centre of Munich, in the immediate vicinity of the Central Station a new city district has been created with office, commercial and residential buildings, at the heart of which is the elongated, spaciously landscaped Arnulfpark. The development plan originating from 1873 was extended into the four quarters “Fire, Water, Air and Earth”. Thus a new, lively, urban quarter came into being in the middle of the city, combining living, working and recreation with one another.
In the eastern section of the Arnulfpark, the quarter dedicated to “Air”, the 9000 sq. m. sized business and residential house Velum Amulfpark is located in a prominent position as an extension of the park. Based on the requirements of the development plan a solid pedestal was developed as a natural stone sculpture that merges both parts of the building, a residential and a commercial property, with one another. The park flows in the two-storey part of the building over spacious open staircases and seeded roofs right to the Stadtplatz in the east. Thus it has been possible to form a seamless transition between the landscaped green centre and the urban roads and plazas.
