Projects / Public space / - C&A Glass Bridge
The glass bridge connecting both sections of the C&A department-store, resembles a fine piece of furniture within Hamburg’s streetscape. By reducing the range of materials to timber, steel and glass, the construction exudes functionality and elegance, and with it’s restrained appearance, it enriches the urban townscape. The construction consists of a linear laminated timber beam, with steel stiffening and tension rods, which are defined by the sectional loads. Floor, walls and roof of the bridge are constructed entirely in glass, and the transparency ensures a restrained presence within the urban context, as well as an uninterrupted view of the tower of St. Jakobi and St. Petri.
