The office and apartment complex lies in the zone of historic buildings in the centre of Moscow along the north bank of the Vodootwodnij Canal not far from the Moskwa and the Red Square. With its cubic forms and graduated heights the structure reacts to the existing neighbouring buildings, in particular to the Church of St. George located in the immediate vicinity. Likewise, the view axes along the canalside road take the important surrounding cultural monuments into consideration.
The overall volume of the building with approx. 40,000 sq. m. of gross floor space appears during the course of the day as a multi-facetted interchange of mass and open space, light and shade and the overall solidness is dispersed by green conservatories, glazed office areas, open halls, atria and roof terraces. The interior structure of the building is re-interpreted while absorbing the historic zoning of a pedestal, middle and staggered section which becomes apparent in the façade. Vertically arranged, revolving and sliding wooden slats are incorporated in this façade for shading the interior.
Despite the required volume of the building all these features ensure a light, transparent façade image during the course of the day with the warm shades of the wood whereas at night the building in its shining brilliance opens itself to the observer and takes on new contours.
