Projects / Office buildings / - Berliner Tor Centre offfice building
The former Hamburg Police Headquarters building is the only real high-rise building, and the only building in the city in the classical modern style which makes a significant architectural statement. The facade, which was built in the early sixties, is characterisedby the “brises soleils” (horizontal und vertical profiles, that are punctuated around the central element). The “brise soleils” were originally concrete, but during the renovation of the building they were replaced (as were the additional sculptural, structural elements) with aluminium. The stairtowers, lifts, toilets, kitchens and print rooms are located at the centre of the building. The 5,30metre deep, office spaces are strung along the newly restored facade. The 1,29metre wide facade module allows a great degree of spatial flexibility. The low cills at around 45 centimetres allow for windows which are virtually ceiling-high, thereby giving the users not only very well-lit workplaces, but also breathtaking views over the city of Hamburg and it’s surroundings.
