The new offices for the graphic design agency Scholz & Friends, in Hamburg’s Hanseatic Trade Center, appear to be modern and optimistic. If the architecture of the existing new building appeared to be arbitrary, then the seven storeys which were redesigned by BRT, display an individual and friendly face. The open management culture and the collegial communication were to the fore of the conceptual thinking: thus, individual offices were visually connected with glass walls, while central open plan office spaces encourage a dialogue with colleagues. A continuous sideboard was used a means of uniting the relatively small scale of the window openings in the facade, which served to emphasise the unique character of the building. While up to 50 workplaces could be integrated into the first six storeys, the upper storey was conceived as being the directors floor for 20 employees. A ‘floating’ conference container for up to 30 people was suspended from the 5,50 metre ceiling and given a separate staircase. BRT’s concept convinces not only through it’s visual and functional qualities, but also through it’s flexibility: Should the floor plan arrangement on the individual floors no longer meet the requirements of the company, they can be relatively easily changed within a few hours.
